The Busser is responsible for enhancing the overall Resident dining experience by assisting and supporting the Front of the House in providing a clean and pleasant dining room. This is to be handled in The Sterling Touch® friendly, courteous, helpful, timely and professional manner, resulting in a very high level of resident satisfaction. Position is under the general guidance of the Dining Manager in accordance with Community standards, processes, procedures and practices.

Essential Functions:
  • Participate in Start Sterling! daily line-up.
  • Greet the Residents, guests and fellow employees in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Check station before, during and after shift for proper set-up and cleanliness; clean, organize and maintain as appropriate and/or assigned.
  • Establish and maintain high cleanliness and sanitation standards in all side stations and dining areas. 
  • Stock and re-fill product as needed.
  • Wipe tables or seats with dampened cloths and/or replace dirty tablecloths.
  • Scrape and stack dirty dishes and carry dishes and other tableware to kitchen for cleaning.
  • Clean up spilled food, drink, and/or broken dishes and remove trash.
  • Accurately and in a friendly manner answer resident questions concerning food, beverages, and our community.
  • Provide the highest level of service.
  • Communicate with employees to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Complete side work during non-busy hours.
  • Represent the community in a professional manner and maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Report to work as scheduled, in uniform, and ready to be in position.
  • Assist with re-setting each table and place setting after each use.
  • Document and report breakage/loss of all service ware for tracking expense and ensuring par inventory levels are maintained to prevent service breakdowns.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions organized by Community Leadership.
  • Perform other duties as directed, developed or assigned.



  • Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • High school and college students encouraged to apply.


  • No prior experience required. 
  • Prior service or hospitality experience preferred but not required.
  • Flexible, self-motivated, and positive with a professional attitude towards residents, co-workers and management.



  • All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance as detailed in the Grand Living Employee Handbook, Orientation and Training.
