The Expo Food Runner is responsible for enhancing the overall Resident dining experience by assisting and supporting the Front of the House in providing timely service to the residents, as well as ongoing dining room cleanliness and prep.  This is to be handled in The Sterling Touch® friendly, courteous, helpful, timely and professional manner, resulting in a very high level of resident satisfaction. Position is under the general guidance of the Dining Manager in accordance with Community standards, processes, procedures and practices.

Essential Functions:
  • Participate in Start Sterling! daily line-up.
  • Greet the Residents, guests and fellow employees in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Check station before, during and after shift for proper set-up and cleanliness; clean, organize and maintain as appropriate and/or assigned.
  • Establish and maintain high cleanliness and sanitation standards in all side stations and dining areas. 
  • Stock and re-fill product as needed.
  • When ready, retrieve order up to 30 lbs. from kitchen, confirm its accuracy, lift and deliver to Resident and guest along with appropriate condiments.
  • Accurately and in a friendly manner answer resident questions concerning food, beverages, and our community.
  • Provide the highest level of service.
  • Communicate with employees to ensure guest satisfaction.
  • Complete side work during non-busy hours.
  • Represent the community in a professional manner and maintain a professional appearance at all times.
  • Report to work as scheduled, in uniform, and ready to be in position.
  • Assist with re-setting each table and place setting after each use.
  • Document and report breakage/loss of all service ware for tracking expense and ensuring par inventory levels are maintained to prevent service breakdowns.
  • Attend meetings and training sessions organized by Community Leadership.
  • Perform other duties as directed, developed or assigned.



  • Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • High school and college students encouraged to apply.


  • No prior experience required. 
  • Prior service or hospitality experience preferred but not required.
  • Flexible, self-motivated, and positive with a professional attitude towards residents, co-workers and management.



  • All employees must maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance as detailed in the Grand Living Employee Handbook, Orientation and Training.
